The Mega Millions winning numbers drawing Tuesday was a dud for hopeful multi-millionaires many times over, and now the jackpot has reached $500 million for only the fourth time in the game's history.
No winning tickets matched Tuesday's drawing of 7, 25, 43, 56 and 59, and Mega Ball 13, ABC News reported, when the jackpot was a paltry $458 million.
The next Mega Millions drawing is Friday at 8:59 p.m. Eastern time, ABC News said, and the jackpot will be at least $502, and counting, with a cash payout worth $301 million, and counting.
"Jackpot rolls are always exciting, but surpassing the $500 million mark for only the fourth time is a historic milestone," said Gordon Medenica, Mega Millions lead director and Maryland Lottery and gaming director.
"Large jackpots like this one capture everyone's attention, and it would be great to see the roll go on for a while longer. But at the same time, we can't wait to see someone win."
Three winning tickets – from Illinois, Kansas, and Maryland – shared Mega Millions largest jackpot of $656 million in 2012. Ticket winners in California and Georgia shared Mega Millions next largest jackpot of $648 million in 2013.
A single winner from Indiana hit for $536 million in 2016, which was the third largest prize and the biggest payout ever for a single ticket, according to Mega Millions.
There has been only one Mega Millions winner this year, when a single ticket from Port Richey, Florida matched the winning numbers for a $451 million prize. That was the fifth biggest jackpot in Mega Millions history.
A New Hampshire woman won $559.7 million in a Powerball jackpot in January. The woman had to go to court to stay anonymous after winning the enormous total.
In March, Powerball announced its second winner of the year when someone in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania won a jackpot worth $456.7 million. That winner has not come forward yet.
The next Powerball drawing, with a jackpot of $40 million, will be held Wednesday night. The amount has a cash value of $24 million, according to the Powerball website.
