Melania Trump’s shoes fired up social media critics Tuesday who criticized the first lady for wearing high heels to visit Texas with the president to see Hurricane Harvey's devastation.

FLOTUS Communications Director Kate Bennett responded to critics, tweeting, “It’s sad that we have an active and ongoing natural disaster in Texas, and people are worried about her shoes.”

Celebrities and others on Twitter began mocking Melania Trump after media outlets drew attention to her shoes, calling them stiletto heels and questioning their appropriateness for the flooded conditions she would encounter in Texas.

The many comments drew criticism of their own, with Mashable writing that “everyone” should “please shut up about Melania Trump’s shoes.”

Other Twitter users agreed.

Fox News pointed out that Melania changed her shoes on the plane and was wearing sneakers when she landed in Corpus Christi with her husband.
