Melissa Gilbert, who played the role of Laura Ingalls on the hit television show “Little House on the Prairie,” said on a new episode of “Watch What Happens Live” that she dated Tom Cruise when he was a struggling actor and bought him his first set of dishes.
Gilbert was responding to a caller who asked if it was true that she dated Tom Cruise:

“That is true. When I dated him, he was Tom Mapother still. He had just moved to Los Angeles. ... I did not have sex with him. We made out, but honestly, there was no sex. ... He was a struggling actor and I was working, I actually bought him his first set of dishes.”
Gilbert touched on a number of subjects during the session. Asked by host Billy Cohen what she would say to Shannen Doherty, who once had a one-night stand with Gilbert’s first husband, the former child actress said, “I wouldn’t say anything, I would just punch her in the nose.”
In a recent
Fox411 interview, Gilbert discussed how her life has changed since she moved to a small Michigan town with about 9,000 residents.
“Totally different. Here’s one of the things I noticed almost right away. When you walk into a restaurant everybody doesn’t turn around to see who just came in. That’s an amazing difference. ... “It’s a little bit like 'Green Acres' without the farm and glamour.”
Gilbert this week appeared on
"Good Morning America" to talk about her new children’s book “Daisy and Josephine,” about a young girl, her dad, and a French bulldog. Gilbert’s father died when she was 11.
“It is about me and my dad,” she said on "GMA." Gilbert said the book was for children growing up in different situations and “overcoming shyness.”
