Michael Thomasson, who holds the Guinness World Record for the largest collection of video games, has sold his stockpile for more than $750,000.

A bidder on GameGavel.com offered up a staggering $750,250 for Thomasson's 11,000 titles this week, less than two weeks after the New York man first posted his collection online.

Thomasson told CNET.com that the financial need to take care of his family, which includes a 5-year-old daughter, took priority — at least temporarily — over keeping the collection and said he felt selling it would provide the means for him to comfortably provide for them.

"I simply have an immediate family and extended family that have needs that need to be addressed," he said. "While I do not wish to part with these games, I have responsibilities that I have made to others and this action is how I will help meet them. No worries, I've sold my collection many times in the past and still managed to capture Guinness' attention, and it is entirely possible that I may again."

Thomasson, 41, was first recognized in 2012 in the gamer's edition of the Guinness World Records for his video game collection.

"Video games have been a big part of my life and will continue to be so," Thomasson told the Daily News last week.

No word on who the buyer is, but he or she will also receive Thomasson's Guinness certification along with the games.

"I operated seven independent gaming stores during the '90s and have worked for another chain for the last decade," Thomasson told CNET.com about how he started his massive collection. "I also operated Good Deal Games online since 1998, having thousands of games cross my path. Whenever I purchased a game that did not directly come from the distributor I was able to look through all our inventory and pick out the nicest copy of a game, including grabbing the nicest box and manual."
