Comedian Michelle Collins will replace Rosie Perez as co-host of ABC daytime show "The View" after the current season comes to an end.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Collins, 33, has been a frequent guest on the show, and has also appeared on programs on the Bravo and VH1 networks. Her hiring is expected to be officially announced by ABC at a later date.
Perez announced Wednesday her eminent departure from the show. In retiring her co-host title, she joins "View" veterans like Joy Behar and Barbara Walters, who helped launch the show in 1997.
Earlier this year, Rosie O’Donnell's second stint on the show "proved to be misfire,"
Variety reported, while "lackluster ratings in recent years" has led show producers to churn through many experimental co-hosts like Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy.
"Competing shows like 'The Talk' have managed to gain headway by offering a kinder and gentler alternative to 'The View,' which has struggled to find hosts that resonate with the audience,"
echoed Entertainment Weekly.
Just last month, ABC officially hired Raven-Symoné, the actress known for her roles on "The Cosby Show" and Disney Channel's "That’s So Raven."
Upon the retirement of Perez, show regulars will include Collins, Whoopi Goldberg — a show stalwart since 2007 — Nicolle Wallace, and Raven-Symoné.
