A Midwest blizzard dressed in white as Winter Storm Kayla will visit the Plains with heavy snow this week, and the Rocky Mountain region, and then the upper Midwest. according to the Weather Channel.

After bringing snow to the Southern California mountains, Kayla is expected to bring strong winds and heavy snow to the Midwest, possibly causing substantial travel problems,

The National Weather Service issued blizzard warnings for parts of south-central Nebraska and north-central Kansas, along with sections of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Blizzard watches have been issued for eastern Nebraska, southeast South Dakota, northern, central, and western Iowa and southern Minnesota. Other locations included in the watch were Omaha, Nebraska; Des Moines, Iowa; and Rochester, Minnesota, stated the channel.

The Weather Channel reported that flight delays were expected at Denver International Airport on Monday and possibly Tuesday; at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport Tuesday into early Wednesday; and Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Chicago Midway International Airport late Tuesday and early Wednesday.

"Folks – please remember that you don't have to wait until midnight to move your car – during a snow emergency," said Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert on her Facebook page Sunday. "If you come home from work in the evening and the opposite side of the street has already been plowed – you can move your car then.

"The only other option we would have during a 'snow emergency' (and many cities do this) is to not allow any parking whatsoever on the streets and ticket and tow all cars."

Washington, D.C. issued 5,479 tickets and towed almost 700 vehicles when the recent major winter storm dumped more than two feet of snow on the nation's capital, said the Washington Post

The Colorado Department of Transportation started working 12-hour shifts over the weekend to prepare for the snow, which started there Sunday, according to KCNC-TV.
