Miguel Pimentel, the 27-year-old R&B singer-songwriter who is known throughout the music community simply as "Miguel," was arrested early Thursday morning for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Known for his songs "Adorn" and "Kaleidoscope Dream," the Los Angeles-born musician was stopped at 2:15 a.m. Thursday in his BMW X6 for allegedly speeding and having tinted windows, a spokeswoman for the West LAPD told ABC News station KABC.

According to police, Miguel, who was reportedly cooperative during his arrest, had a blood alcohol level of .10, above that of the state's .08 legal limit, ABC News reported.

He was released several hours later on $5,000 bail, according to officials.

He is scheduled to appear before a Los Angeles court on Sept. 9.

In 2013, Miguel won a Grammy Award for "Best R&B Song" for his song "Adorn," and won two BET Awards for "Best Male R&B Artist" and "Best Collaboration," for the song "Lotus Flower Bomb."

In 2012, the Soul Train Music Awards named Miguel "Best R&B/Soul Male Artist."

The singer has yet to issue a statement about the arrest.

In May, Miguel, who is of both African-American and Mexican-American decent, caused a racial stir online when he claimed "black people are the most judgmental people in the world," on Twitter.

Miguel then followed the initial post up with a series of seemingly rambling tweets:

Miguel's rant was prompted by a tweet from a fan who said the singer sold his soul, the Urban Daily website reported.
