A new viral YouTube video of an "emotional" baby who cries when her mommy sings to her is pulling on the heartstrings of some Internet users but angering others.

The clip, titled "Emotional Baby," features Canadian mother Amanda Leroux singing Rod Stewart's "My Heart Can't Tell You No" to her 10-month-old baby girl, Mary-Lynne.

As her mother sings, the child's eyes well up with tears that soon spill over and run down her cheeks. At one point, she smiles. The baby appears to be crying because she's emotionally moved by the song, not because she's in distress.

"No one can explain why, not even I," Leroux said of her daughter's reaction, according to KansasCity.com. "I can sing any other song and do not get the same reaction from her. It's too adorable to keep all to ourselves."

The video instantly went viral, generating nearly 5 million views since it was posted Oct. 18, but reactions are split. Some think it's the cutest thing ever.

"It's amazing the bond that the lil girl is having with her mom and her wonderful voice," one YouTube user commented.

"This is the most adorable thing I've seen yet... Luv it!" another posted.

"It's so cute 'cause she's trying to hold it in and be quiet. It's like she can feel the emotion in the song," someone else wrote.

But others felt the video exploited the child.

"You are projecting a lot on a baby who probably is crying because she believes her mother is yelling at her," one YouTube user commented. "Either we are watching a child who has an emotional and mental development years beyond her chronological age or we have a child who is behaving very much in a manner that a baby of her age would when experiencing emotional distress from the sound of an adult 'yelling.'"

"The mom knows the baby cries and is distressed when she sings this song... and continues to sing the song? On more than one occasion?" someone else wrote. "What a sorry excuse for a mother. Emotional torture of an infant. Charming."
