MTA worker killed (Bing)
One MTA worker was killed and another injured after a New York City subway hit them as they worked in a Brooklyn tunnel shortly after midnight Thursday.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority told The New York Times that three workers were setting up a work zone on the southbound track near the Fort Hamilton Parkway station when a G route train hit two of the men about 12:05 a.m.

Authorities told the Times that the train had pinned the workers while it was traveling around a curve.
The New York Daily News reported that one worker, 53, was taken to the Maimonides Medical Center in critical condition before he died. The second worker, 49, identified by WNBC-TV as Jeffrey Fleming, was transported to New York Methodist Hospital in stable conditions.

"We extend our deep felt condolences today," New York City Transit president Ronnie Hakim said in a statement, according to WNBC-TV. "The safety of all our workers is paramount. All safety standards are being reviewed with employees and a 'safety stand down' order – requiring all non-emergency track work to cease – has been issued while an investigation is underway."
Transport Workers Union Local 100 president John Samuelsen told the Times that he asked union leaders in an email to reinforce safety procedures with workers.
"This tragedy highlights the extreme danger transit workers are in every time they step on the tracks," Mr. Samuelsen said in a statement.
MTA spokeswoman Amanda Kwan told the Daily News that the authority was investigating why the workers were on a track that was still in operation. One MTA worker told WNBC-TV that the men were flaggers who entered the tunnel with lanterns to light their work space before starting repairs.
Authorities said that emergency personnel were forced to use an emergency exit to rescue both victims since the accident happened between stations, WNBC-TV said.
"Difficult and unusual, unorthodox type of rescue, and they were able to extricate them as quickly as possible," FDNY Deputy Chief Stephen Morow told the broadcaster.
Service for the F and G trains was disrupted until about 2:45 a.m. Thursday, according to WNBC-TV.
