Natalie Portman will play Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in an upcoming biopic about the second woman ever to gain a spot on the prestigious bench.

Deadline Hollywood reported Friday that the picture is called "On the Basis of Sex."

Focus Features and Marielle Heller, director of "The Diary Of A Teenage Girl," are currently in negotiations to come on board the project.

Ginsburg is the first Jewish female justice, appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1993. Sandra Day O’Connor was the first female to ever serve on the court.

The biopic is expected to portray Ginsburg's fight for equal rights for women throughout her career.

According to ThinkProgress.org, "In 1971, while still a practicing attorney, Ginsburg authored the brief in Reed v. Reed that convinced the Supreme Court to hold unanimously and for the first time that the Constitution’s promise of equal protection of the laws applies to women. Five years later, Ginsburg’s brief in Craig v. Boren convinced the Court to hold that all laws that engage in gender discrimination should be treated with skepticism under the Constitution."

The film is expected to begin production in late 2015.
