“Our fans have a great sense of humor and we share their affinity for the comic genius of Saturday Night Live,”
said Lisa Sholk, Ben & Jerry’s marketing manager, in a news release.
Gilly’s Catastrophic Crunch combines chocolate and sweet cream ice creams with caramel clusters, fudge-covered almonds, and a marshmallow swirl the company said was "as frantic and mischievous as the flavor’s namesake."
The Lazy Sunday ice cream honors a "sincere love of cupcakes," and has a vanilla cake batter ice cream base with chocolate and yellow cupcake pieces and a chocolate frosting swirl.
The creative ice cream flavors honor the 40th anniversary of "SNL" and will be sold at Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops in the United States and Canada.
Uproxx lauded the idea, but questioned the choice of one of the sketches. “Out of all the SNL characters and sketches they had to choose from, stretching back almost 40 years, including such greats as Matt Foley and Stefon and Church Lady and so many others, they chose Gilly for one of the flavors. GILLY. For the love of God, you hippies.”
While many online admitted they’d be heading to buy the new flavors, some took the opportunity to take a shot at "SNL."
