A new vaccine study released Tuesday by the American Academy of Pediatrics confirms the safety of vaccines used for disease prevention in U.S. children.
“
Concerns about vaccine safety have led some parents to decline recommended vaccination of their children, leading to the resurgence of diseases,” the background portion study states. “Reassurance of vaccine safety remains critical for population health. This study systematically reviewed the literature on the safety of routine vaccines recommended for children in the United States.”

The immunization for measles/mumps/rubella, known as the MMR vaccine, has received the most attention in recent years because of reported links to autism.
“There is strong evidence that MMR vaccine is not associated with autism,” the study’s authors noted.
The study did say some vaccines have shown serious adverse events, but cautioned that those were extremely rare.
To sum it up, an
American Academy of Pediatrics release said, "Researchers conclude the findings may allay concerns of some parents about vaccine safety."
The most recent systematic review, conducted by researchers for the RAND Corporation, of the 11 childhood vaccines follows a 2011 report on the safety of vaccinations for children 6 years of age and younger released by the Institute of Medicine.
According to online information provided by Autism Speaks, perhaps the most recognized organization dedicated to the awareness of childhood autism, a definitive link between autism and vaccines hasn’t been made, particularly the MMR vaccine.
“It remains possible that, in rare cases,
immunization may trigger the onset of autism symptoms in a child with an underlying medical or genetic condition,” the group’s website reads. “Autism Speaks is funding studies on the underlying biology of autism, including studies to better understand medical and genetic conditions associated with autism.”
