Nigel Farage met with Donald Trump on Saturday, becoming the first British politician to meet the president-elect face-to-face since last week's election.
Nigel, the interim head of the United Kingdom Independence Party and one of the leading voices in this past summer's Brexit vote, met with Trump for about an hour Saturday, according to The Telegraph.
"It was a great honor to spend time with Donald Trump," Farage said after the visit, according to The Telegraph. "He was relaxed and full of good ideas. I'm confident he will be a good president. His support for the U.S.-U.K. relationship is very strong. This is a man with whom we can do business."
The BBC News reported that Farage had turned the Independence Party into Britain's third-largest party and helped "persuade more than 17 million people to vote to leave the (European Union)."
"Few politicians have been more closely identified with the party they lead," the BBC News reported this summer. "Much of that success has been a product of Mr. Farage's straight talking, everyman image, a picture editor's dream when snapped grinning with pint or cigarette (sometimes both) in hand."
Farage posted a photo with Trump on his Twitter account.
Time magazine described Farage's visit with Trump in New York this weekend as a coup, beating British Prime Minister Theresa May and opposition Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn to the punch of meeting with the president-elect.
"Now, many in Westminster are coming to terms with the fact a politician long seen as a fringe figure in British politics can command the attention of the leader of the free world," Time magazine writer Dan Stewart said. "On his return, Farage reported that Trump and his aides are unhappy at the attacks leveled at the president-elect during the campaign by some government figures."
Kellyanne Conway, Trump's spokeswoman, told the BBC News that the meeting between the president-elect and Farage had been "very productive" as they discussed "freedom and winning and what all this means for the world."
Trump's call for a ban on Muslims entering the U.S. in late 2015 led to a debate in Parliament on whether the then Republican presidential candidate should be barred from Britain, noted the BBC News.
"There's a real opportunity here," Farage said about working with Trump, the BBC News reported. "Not only President-elect Trump, but his whole team is Anglophile. They like our country, they recognize what we've done together in the past, and they're coming into this with an incredibly positive view. We need to seize the day."
