Nordstrom announced Thursday it will not be selling Ivanka Trump’s fashion line going forward due to sales performance of the brand.
The decision came as some shoppers participated in a Grab Your Wallet campaign designed to boycott retail chains and stores that sold Ivanka Trump or Donald Trump items.
The chain denied the move was political and issued the statement after a Bloomberg report said Nordstrom was “winding down” its relationship with Ivanka Trump, USA Today reported. Trump’s line is also sold in stores including Macy’s, Bed Bath and Beyond, Ross, Walmart, DSW, Kmart and Sears.
"We've said all along we make buying decisions based on performance," Nordstrom said in a statement. "We've got thousands of brands — more than 2,000 offered on the site alone. Reviewing their merit and making edits is part of the regular rhythm of our business."
Grab Your Wallet co-founder Shannon Coulter was pleased with Nordstrom's decision.
“I am absolutely thrilled, and I know the vast majority of Grab Your Wallet participants will be as well,” she said, The Associated Press reported.
Trump said in January that she would take a formal leave of absence from her company and from the Trump organization as the family moves to Washington, D.C., for her husband Jared Kushner to serve as an adviser to her father during his presidency. Abigail Klum and a board of trustees now run the Ivanka Trump brand, according to NBC News.
While some Twitter users had urged Nordstrom to drop Ivanka Trump’s line since the election in November, others are just as angry to see the products go.
