North Korea said President Donald Trump was worse that Adolf Hitler, citing his administration's departure from the Paris climate accords and an U.N. organization, Newsweek reported on Wednesday.
North Korea's name-calling was the harshest yet for the reclusive regime headed by Kim Jong Un in his war of words with Trump. Through the state-run Korean Central News Agency, the communist country charged that the United States was "not qualified to talk about global peace, security and civilization," noted the magazine.
Trump announced in June that the United States was withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement, stating that it would cost millions of American jobs, Bloomberg reported.
The U.S. State Department announced Oct. 12 that it was withdrawing from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, citing "concerns with mounting arrears at UNESCO, the need for fundamental reform in the organization, and continuing anti-Israel bias at UNESCO."
"The Trump group is mulling denying the payment of dues to the U.N., which it has used as a tool for hegemonism and imposing the payment on other member states," the North Korean statement said through KCNA, according to Newsweek. "On June 1, it ruthlessly violated the Paris agreement, the fruit of the common efforts of the international community to preserve global environment.
"When the U.S., an arch criminal of wrecking global environment, announced it would withdraw from the agreement, the international community branded its move as an 'act surpassing the toxic gas atrocities by Hitler' and a 'crime to annihilate humankind by making the whole green planet a room filled with toxic gas'," the statement continued.
Trump and Kim Jong Un have exchange harsh rhetoric and threats since the president came into office in January as North Korea continued to build its nuclear program against the wishes of many in the international community.
During a September speech to the United Nations, Trump said he would "totally destroy" North Korea if provokes, deriding Kim as "Rocket Man."
In turn, Kim responded several days later, saying through KCNA: "I will surely and definitely tame the deranged U.S. dotard with fire," stated The Washington Post.
