Neither the Obamas nor President Trump are invited to the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, which reportedly will include no political figures.
Kensington Palace announced Tuesday that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had opted to refrain from inviting political leaders including British Prime Minister Theresa May to their upcoming nuptials, CNN noted.
Instead, the royal couple would only be extending invitations to close friends and regular citizens to attend their May 19 ceremony at Windsor Castle.
"It has been decided that an official list of political leaders — both UK and international — is not required for Prince Harry and Ms. Markle's wedding," a Kensington Palace spokesman said.
A White house official confirmed per CNN that Trump had not been invited to the wedding, and a royal source said Barack and Michelle Obama would also not be in attendance, although it is unclear whether the former U.S. President and his wife had been invited.
The announcement follows recent rumors that Prince Harry intended to invite Barack Obama to the wedding but not Trump.
A senior government source told The Sun the 33-year-old prince was being warned against inviting the former U.S. President for fear that it would come across as a snub to Trump.
"Harry has made it clear he wants the Obamas at the wedding, so it's causing a lot of nervousness," the source said, adding that "Trump could react very badly" to the news.
The royal couple decided to instead invite members of the pubic to their wedding.
According to The Express, 600 people will be invited to the ceremony, 200 of whom will attend the exclusive evening celebrations at Frogmore House.
Maintaining their philanthropic poise, the royal couple also requested that, instead of wedding gifts, members of the public could donate to one of several selected charities of their choice.
"The couple have chosen charities which represent a range of issues that they are passionate about, including sport for social change, women's empowerment, conservation, the environment, homelessness, HIV and the Armed Forces," Kensington Palace said in a statement.
"Many of these are small charities, and the couple are pleased to be able to amplify and shine a light on their work."
