Two Oklahoma parents were sentenced to 130 years in prison in a child abuse case.

According to KOCO 5 News, 24-year-old Aislyn Miller and 25-year-old Kevin Fowler were found guilty of five counts of child neglect on Monday after allowing their children to live in filthy conditions.

Describing the scene during a preliminary hearing, Kristi Simpson, an Oklahoma Department of Human Services investigator, said cat feces was smeared across the walls and there were maggots found in the 9-month-old twin girls' play pen, the Tulsa World reported.

The twins were also left to starve and were found to each weigh roughly 8 pounds, the newspaper said.

When taken to a hospital, Simpson noted that a maggot was found in one of the girls' genital areas.

"It's what we would term as shocking and heinous," she said, according to the Tulsa World.

Police and medical officials backed these claims, referring to the situation as the "worst case of child abuse" they had ever seen, the newspaper noted.

During the sentencing, Judge William Musseman said the parents had violated the sacred trust of parenting.

Miller and Fowler had said they were overwhelmed with having to take care of the children but Musseman accused them of putting their interests above that of their children.

"It's my estimation that your kids were on death's door," Musseman said per the Tusla World.

According to WCYB, Fowler and Miller are facing a total of 130 years jail time and will only become eligible for parole after serving 85 percent of their time.

Attention now shifts to the twins' maternal grandparents, John and Cathey Miller, who are facing charges of enabling child abuse and child neglect and will be tried in Rogers County, The Miami Herald noted.

Meanwhile, Rita Fowler, the babies' paternal grandmother, is being charged for multiple counts of child neglect.
