Oprah Winfrey's "take a deep breath" tweet and comments after president-elect Donald Trump's meeting with President Barack Obama have riled some on the internet.

Winfrey supported Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in last week's election, but told "Entertainment Tonight" afterward that she was pleased to see Trump's reaction to Obama during their one-one meeting at the White House.

"I just saw the two of them together, I will say this: I just saw President-elect Trump with President Obama in the White House and it gave me hope," Winfrey told the celebrity show. "To hear President-elect Trump say that he had respect for President Obama, it felt that he had reached a moment where he was actually humbled by that experience.

"To hear President Obama say that he has renewed confidence in the peaceful transition, I think everybody can take a deep breath. Everybody can take a deep breath now. Thank you."

Winfrey posted a similar sentiment on Twitter Thursday.

Winfrey had told The Associated Press that she was in disbelief after watching Trump win the presidential election, but added that she did not believe his victory was a repudiation of Obama, but of people who wanted their voices heard.

Winfrey's hopeful tweet was not supported by some celebrities and others on social media.

Others showed support for the message.
