Oprah, Raven-Symone Discuss How Former Child Star Stays Out of Media

Raven-Symone has managed to remain mostly scandal-free, even though she started in Hollywood at age 3, and she told Oprah Winfrey that stars who get roasted by the media have only themselves to blame.

"My parents taught me to keep my private life private to the best of my ability," she told Winfrey on OWN’s “Where Are They Now,” which will be on TV Sunday. "They showed me all the role models out there that I could turn in to, and [to think about] what I want for myself in the future."

At age 28, Raven-Symone shared with Winfrey her thoughts on how stars put themselves out there in ways that can create bigger scandals.

"Seeing all of the statistics, child stars going off the edge, what I've learned? It's unnecessary to go to the most popular restaurant in the world when you have a scandal on your head and then get mad that someone's going to take a picture of you," she said. "That's your fault, boo boo. Stay in the house."

The star has a reputation for keeping her personal business to herself, and it was just in 2013 that she came out and let people know that she was gay.

People quoted Raven-Symone, the former "Cosby Show" star, in 2012, when she wrote, “I'm living my PERSONAL life the way I'm happiest. I'm not one, in my 25-year career to disclose who I'm dating. And I shall not start now. My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I'm dating to know. I'm not one for a public display of my life."

Raven-Symone’s advice for child stars caused some speculation online that she was lashing out at her former roommate, Lindsay Lohan. Others agreed with her sharp advice.
