A photo of Otis the dog carrying a bag of food in his mouth in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey has been shared more than 50,000 times in just a few days.
Salvador Segovia put the dog, which belongs to his grandson, on his screened-in back porch with food and water to ride out the storm, The Washington Post reported. For some reason, Otis decided to break open the screen door and run away on Friday night in Sinton, a small town of 6,000 near Corpus Christi, taking his bag of food with him.
Segovia looked for the dog for a while, and a neighbor saw him and took the photo that has become such a sensation before following him back to Segovia’s house, the Post reported.
It turns out Otis frequently visits stores and other buildings around town, and people often feed him along the way.
Segovia was relieved to have found Otis before his grandson, whose family had fled because of flooding, came back, the Houston Chronicle reported.
Besides wandering around town, Otis also has a history of comforting Segovia’s grandson Carter, 5, during seizures and asthma attacks, the Chronicle reported.
Twitter users were impressed with Otis for carrying the dog food around.
