Pamela Anderson will be running in the New York City Marathon this coming November in an effort to raise funds for Haiti.

Anderson will be running for the J/P Haitian Relief Organization, a nonprofit founded by actor Sean Penn to help the victims of Haiti's devastating 2010 earthquake, which was responsible for killing more than 100,000 people.

Anderson, who hopes to raise $500,000 for the victims of Haiti's earthquake, made the announcement on Twitter on Sunday.

On the online charity fundraising website Crowdwise.com, Anderson explained why she chose Haiti.

"Poorest Country in the Western Hemisphere. Just a one-hour flight from Miami. How are we not more involved?" Anderson said. "To spend time in Haiti is to fall in love with Haiti. The magic of this country... The people... The humility... Pride. Musicians, athletes and Artists. It has been heartbreaking to witness the poverty among people in what should be a very rich country."

As of 2 p.m. Monday, Anderson has raised more than $8,200.

Anderson recounted her experience helping with the relief effort following the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

"I visited J/P HRO when it was in its beginning stages. I brought cold beer through rubble-covered streets to volunteers who were working long days surrounded by dust and death," Anderson wrote. "I support Sean and his efforts. I have seen firsthand what they have accomplished. But there is much left to do."

The 46-year-old Canadian-born blonde bombshell, a vegan and former Playboy playmate, is perhaps best known for her sultry role on the TV series "Baywatch" and for her failed marriage to Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee.

Anderson is also known for her commitment to animal rights, as a long-time activist with the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

In 2003, Anderson stripped down in protest of fur coats for PETA's "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" campaign.

The 2013 New York City Marathon is scheduled for Nov. 3.
