Paratrooper Killed at Fort Bragg in Training Accident; 7 Others Hurt

A paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division died in a training accident Friday at Fort Bragg, the Army said.

According to the Army Times, two other paratroopers suffered serious injuries, while five others were treated for minor injuries and released from Womack Army Medical Center. The incident happened Friday morning, and its cause is being investigated.

The names of the paratroopers will be released after next of kin is notified.

Earlier this month, Sgt. Jose Maria Pasillas, 34, of Fort Worth, Texas, collapsed and died after a training jump at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, in Alaska. He was a construction equipment repairer with the 23rd Engineer Company.

In 2011, a National Guard paratrooper was killed in a jump at Fort Harrison in Montana. Initial reports suggested that wind blew him onto a rooftop. Another gust then caught the chute and caused him to fall 24 feet onto pavement, Army Times reported.
