A police officer pumped and bought gas for an elderly woman at a gas station on Friday in an act of kindness.
Seth Kazz, who Fox 4 identified as a Citgo gas station owner in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, recounted the incident in a post to Facebook.
The unidentified police officer was at the gas station when he noticed the elderly woman carrying a walking cane hand over $3 in change for gas, according to Kazz's post.
He offered to pump her gas, and as the two got chatting, he discovered her husband had recently passed away and she was struggling to pay her bills.
He walked up to the gas station owner and handed over $20 to pay for gas for the woman — a gesture that went a long way.
It may have prevented her from running out of gas, Kazz noted on Facebook.
Kazz went on to praise police officers in his post that has gone viral.
"Nowadays there's so much negativity towards police officers. No one respects them," he said. "I'm not saying every officer is perfect... but we should all respect, appreciate, and thank them for what they do."
Police officers often perform random acts of kindness that are soon forgotten.
Kevin Gilbert, a police officer in Randolph, Massachusetts, spends his spare time scouring social media for ways to help those in need.
He has sent care packages to sick children in hospitals, bought toys for their siblings and even given parents vouchers to help pay for gas — all from his own pocket, the police department noted.
Earlier this year police officer Mike Kelly of Cleveland paid for a family's groceries out of his own pocket.
Meanwhile, Kazz has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the elderly woman, which has generated over $2,000 in donations as of Wednesday morning.
"She's roughly short $1,000 on her bills every month," he said. "Some days she has money for gas and groceries and some days she doesn't."
Kaz said "it's only right to help someone that's struggling."
