When Lisa Marie Presley married Michael Jackson it was a match that shocked the entertainment world. Even after they divorced, many wondered if the marriage was real, why she did it and what the truth about their life together actually was.
In a recently unearthed interview, Lisa Marie shed some light on Jackson and their marriage.
The pair knew each other from childhood. They met at a concert in Las Vegas where Lisa Marie's father, Elvis Presley, was performing alongside the Jackson Five, and later reconnected as adults, according to Biography.
At the time Lisa Marie was married to Danny Keough but there had always been a spark between her and Jackson so, after splitting with her husband, Lisa Marie married The King of Pop.
For a while they seemed happy, but Lisa Marie later admitted that Jackson was not who she thought he was. The newly unearthed interview. from 2003, features Lisa Marie opening up about her relationship with him.
"All I did get out of it was a s**t storm. And I got out of it," said Lisa Marie, according to Express.
She explained that many people began to question why she so readily jumped into a marriage with Jackson.
"It put a stigma on me. A ‘What the hell was she thinking?’ stigma," Lisa Marie continued.
Jackson was facing rumors of alleged child molestation when he first reached out to Elvis' daughter, but she said he was straight forward from the start.
"He was very real with me off the bat. He immediately went into this whole explanation of what he knew people thought of him and what the truth was. You get sucked into the, 'You poor, misunderstood person, you.' I'm a sucker for that," Lisa Marie said. "Then we sat down to talk, and he was so not what I thought he was."
Seeing the other side of Jackson- the one that was" cursing" and "funny"- left Lisa Marie completely captivated.
They tied the knot in 1994 in a secret ceremony but Jackson's drug addiction strained their marriage. Lisa Marie shared details of their rocky relationship in a previous interview with Oprah.
"He had to make a decision," she said. "Was it the drugs and the vampires or me? And he pushed me away."
