Family and friends of radio broadcasting icon Casey Kasem held a private memorial service in Los Angeles for him Saturday, but Kasem's wife Jean Kasem and daughter Liberty didn't attend.

Kasem, 82, died on June 15 after suffering from Lewy body disease, a form of dementia that left the radio star unable to speak, eat or move on his own, according to The Wrap. In his final year, the children from his first marriage became involved in a bitter dispute with Jean Kasem over visitation and the late star's medical treatment.

Danny Deraney, a spokesman for the Kasem children, told The Wrap that 100 to 150 people attended the memorial at the Bel Air Protestant Church. He said many of the star's former radio colleagues joined the memorial, as well.

"The children – Kerri, Mike, Julie and Julie's daughters gave speeches in addition to his close friends and brother," Deraney said. "The day ended with a wonderful video presentation created by Mike Kasem."

Julie Kasem told People magazine that she was pleased with the show of support from family members, which include Casey Kasem's brother, and other friends, despite of the absence of Jean and Liberty Kasem.

"To have all of his family, friends and coworkers come together to remember and pay tribute to him was beautiful," Julie Kasem said. "It was a heartwarming celebration of my dad's life."

Kasem was the creator and star of "American Top 40," which aired on more than 1,000 stations at the height of its success. He was a busy voiceover actor as well, providing the voice of such cartoon characters as Shaggy on the "Scooby-Doo" cartoon series.

Casey's children and Jean Kasem found themselves in court over various disputes involving Kasem.

Last October, a California judge declined the children's request for emergency conservatorship after they claimed that Jean Kasem, who has been married to Kasem for more than 30 years, cut off their visitation, saying that the star's care was adequate.

Kerri Kasem would prevail in May, as she was granted temporary authority over medical decisions of her father. A California judge then ruled this month that she could withhold food and water from the star after doctors provided documents stating that attempting to feed him to bring the radio star more pain.
