Lil Loaded, the Dallas rapper who went viral in 2019 for his hit song 6locc 6a6y, has died at age 20.
The Dallas County medical examiner confirmed the news Monday to USA Today but did not offer a cause of death. Lil Loaded’s attorney, Ashkan Mehryari, also confirmed the "very tragic" and unexpected death to The Dallas Morning News.
"He had a very bright and promising music career ahead of him,” Mehryari said.
Lil Loaded, whose real name was Dashawn Maurice Robertson, died several days after 6locc 6a6y was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The rapper's success is evident not just in the number of views the video for his song gained on YouTube, which was over 29 million as of Tuesday, but also in the popularity of his follow up single, Gang Unit, which drew over 39 million YouTube views.
Despite this, Lil Loaded's career was tainted by a murder charge stemming from the fatal October shooting of his 18-year-old friend, Khalil Walker. Lil Loaded was arrested and in March was indicted on a lesser charge for one count of manslaughter.
According to the case affidavit cited by Complex, Khalia's sister, Khija, told police she heard gunshots, ran outside and discovered her brother lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his torso. Lil Loaded and another witness, Cameron Walker, were standing over him. One of them told her to call 9-1-1.
The document states that Khija "picked up [Lil Loaded’s] phone and saw a video taken on the phone showing the suspect shoot the complainant." Cameron Walker and Lil Loaded then took Khalia to the hospital and returned to the house where the shooting took place. Lil Loaded reportedly then fled.
After the arrest, Lil Loaded addressed the ordeal on Instagram.
"I appreciate all y’all support . They try to make u look guilty wen u innocent regardless .. we going to get pass this . Rip my brother love u," he wrote.
He was scheduled to appear at a hearing on June 1.
