A restaurant employee put rat poison in pizza cheese that was used to make pizzas at a Fayetteville, North Carolina, restaurant, according to police.
Ricky Lee Adami, 55, was arrested on charges of distributing food containing noxious/deleterious material after a manager noticed unknown material in the cheese and watched surveillance footage to see who had prepared it, ABC 11 reported.
The manager called the police and the cheese was not served to any customers, the news station reported. The restaurant was then thoroughly inspected and sanitized, and all cheese Adami handled was removed from the building.
Adami has a long criminal record dating back to the 1980s, including convictions for burning a public building, multiple DWIs, breaking and entering, and larceny, the News & Observer reported.
He was being held under $100,000 bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center. No motive for poisoning the cheese was given.
Twitter had plenty to say about the incident.
