Richard Gere was rummaging through a New York City trash can near Grand Central Station last week when a kindly woman who didn't recognize him stopped to give him her leftover pizza.
This week, the
New York Post contacted the woman, Karine Gombeau, 42, of Paris, who said she also had no clue there were cameras just across the street recording Gere in his role as a homeless man for the new movie "Time Out of Mind."

Gere, the star of "Pretty Woman" and "An Officer and a Gentleman," is reportedly worth around $100 million and didn't even break character when she approached, Gombeau said.
She, her husband, and 15-year-old son had just eaten at an Italian restaurant, and the "I Love NY" bag she handed him had leftovers from the "enormous" pizza they couldn't finish.
She said Gere asked her, "What's in the bag?"
"I tried to tell him in English, but it came out half in French," she told the Post. "I said, 'Je suis désolée [I am sorry], but the pizza is cold.' He said, 'Thank you so much. God bless you.'"
Two days later, an employee at the Salisbury Hotel tipped her off to the original story in the Post, and she was stunned to see a photo of herself.
"It was magical. ... It’s crazy, this story. It’s unimaginable that something like this could happen," she said, admitting that she finds Gere handsome even at 64.
Gombeau said the homeless people in New York were tough to see. "It leaves me really sad to know we waste food and they have nothing," she said. "It really moves me."
