"Riverdale" actress Vanessa Morgan is speaking out and saying that she is the only black actress on the show and also the lowest paid series regular. The 28-year-old made the claim as she takes to social media to speak out for black people amid the protests taking place across the country in response to George Floyd's killing.
On Wednesday she mentioned her earnings in response to a fan commenting on a previous post in which Morgan blasted the media for its portrayal of black people. The follower suggested Morgan be paid more for playing the role of an LGBTQ character, to which she replied: "Lmao too bad I’m the only black series regular but also paid the least girl i could go on for days."
Morgan followed her comment up with a tweet in which she urged fans not to blast her co-stars.
"My role on Riverdale has nothing to do with my fellow castmates/friends. They don’t write the show. So no need to attack them, they don’t call the shots & I know they have my back," she wrote.
Fellow "Riverdale" star Lili Reinhart expressed her support to Morgan on Twitter.
"We love you, V. And support you 10000%," she wrote.
Former "Riverdale" star Asha Bromfield, who played a member of the band Josie and the Pussycats on the show, also spoke out in response to Morgan's admission on Twitter.
"Don't even get me started with how Riverdale treated the Pussycats. We had so much more to contribute than standing in the background and adding sass to a storyline. I stand with you @VanessaMorgan," she tweeted.
Morgan shared the original tweet that ignited the discussion earlier that day. In the post, she criticized the media for stereotyping black people.
"Tired of how black people are portrayed in Media, tired of us being portrayed as thugs, dangerous or angry scary people," she wrote. "Tired of us also being used as side kick non dimensional characters to our white leads. Or only used in the ads for diversity but not actually in the show. It starts with the media. I’m not being quite anymore."
