Rodman Rips Obama Over Kenneth Bae, Prisoner in North Korea

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman ripped President Barack Obama Thursday, saying he "can't do s—" to help free Kenneth Bae, the American being held in North Korea.

Rodman, a de-facto ambassador to North Korea ever since his February trip to the communist country, said last month that he's going back August 1 to "just hang and have some fun" with Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un, his "friend for life." On Thursday, Rodman told TMZ he's going to do everything in his power to get Jong Un to release Bae, an American prisoner in the North.

"I'm gonna try and get the guy out. It's gonna be difficult," Rodman said. "We got a black president [who] can't even go talk to [Jong Un] ... Obama can't do s—, I don't know why he won't go talk to him."

Bae is a Korean-American tour operator who was arrested in North Korea in November. The country's Supreme Court sentenced him last week for unspecified "hostile acts" against the state. In a Foreign Ministry statement on Sunday, North Korea said the 44-year-old Washington state man entered the country with a disguised identity.

On Tuesday, Rodman tweeted, asking Jong Un to "do me a solid" and "cut Kenneth Bae loose."

Despite a series of propaganda videos depicting a North Korean missile attack on the United States, Rodman has said that Kim Jong Un is just a "kid" who has no interest in starting a nuclear war.

"Kim is not one of these Saddam Hussein-type characters that wants to take over the world," Rodman told The Sun. "He doesn’t want to kill anyone — he wants to talk peace."

As the grandson of the late "Great Leader" Kim Il-sung — the man who founded the West-hating state and whose birthday is still a national holiday there — Jong Un became the automatic heir to the crown when his own father, Kim Jong-Il, died in December 2011.
