Top UFC fighter Ronda Rousey revealed on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" that she will be retiring soon, and that constant media attention and training has gotten wearying since she broke into the public eye in 2015.
The successful fighter has announced that she will challenge Amanda Nunes for the women’s bantamweight title on Dec. 30. UFC president Dana White reported that the announcement was the most retweeted in UFC history, and that Ronda’s return to UFC fighting got 489 million impressions on Twitter, reported Yahoo Sports.
But when she appeared on “Ellen” on Tuesday, she said, “This is definitely one of my last fights. Everyone better watch, because the show isn’t going to be around forever.”
In addition to training for fights, Rousey is an actress, model, and best-selling author. She also has several product endorsements. The attention has been overwhelming for Rousey, who won 15 fights before losing to Holly Holm last year. Rousey’s appearance on “Ellen” is her first this year, and she has declined all other requests for interviews since the Nunes fight was announced.
Rousey was back in training only 12 weeks after her brutal fight with Holm, which left her injured and woozy. She said that the buildup to a fight is more tiring than the fight itself. “It’s the weeks and weeks of buildup beforehand,” she told Ellen. “If it just happened right now I wouldn’t be nervous at all. It’s the waiting.”
The fighter also talked about her “amazing” boyfriend, fellow UFC star Travis Browne, on the show.
