Ronda Rousey Won't Fight a Man Because It's a Bad Image for TV

"Rowdy" Ronda Rousey, called by some the world’s greatest female fighter, has explained why she thinks it would be a bad idea to fight a man.

“I don’t think it’s a great idea to have a man hitting a woman on television,” Rousey told The Daily Beast. “I’ll never say that I’ll lose, but you could have a girl getting totally beat up on TV by a guy — which is a bad image to put across. With all the football [domestic violence] stuff that’s been happening, not a good idea. It’s fun to theorize about and talk about, but it’s something that’s much better in theory than fact.”

The UFC bantamweight champion, who retained her title by knocking out the undefeated Cat Zingano in 14 seconds, told the Daily Beast she keeps it in the forefront of her mind that she can hurt anyone, man or woman, in a fight.

“I have to keep in mind who would sue me before I get into any kind of confrontation with anyone. That’s why I spend all my time at the gym and never go to the club,” Rousey told the Beast. “If I went to the club and got in a confrontation with someone, that would cost me all kinds of money.”

The idea of Rousey fighting a man has been discussed after UFC announcer Joe Rogan said he thought she could beat about half of the male bantamweight fighters.

Rousey told ESPN what she thought about Rogan’s comment: “I never say that I’m incapable of beating anybody, because I don’t believe in putting limits on myself. If you’re just talking about what in the realm of possibilities is possible, well, I could beat 100 percent of them. You can’t tell me there’s a zero percent chance I’m going to beat anyone on this planet. I’m never going to say that.”
