Oft-outspoken actor Samuel L. Jackson might have dropped the f-bomb in a "Saturday Night Live" skit over the weekend.
On the recurring mock talk show “What Up with That?” with Kenan Thompson, Jackson said what sounded very much like the four-letter expletive, pretending to be peeved at the start of the skit, followed by the term sometimes shortened to “bs.”
Thompson, who was playing a talk show host in the sketch, swiftly quipped back, “Come on, Sam ... That costs us money," appearing surprised at the unscripted remarks.
The Oscar-winning “Pulp Fiction” and “Django Unchained” star took to Twitter minutes after the skit, claiming that he said “fuh” instead, and that Thompson was supposed to cut him off before he said the second expletive. But, he wrote, they “blew it!!” He posted a photo of himself appearing surprised, with his mouth wide open, attempting to show the gaffe was an “oops” moment.
A representative for “Saturday Night Live” did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Over 38 seasons of “Saturday Night Live,” fleeting obscenities have very rarely slipped onto the show, the New York Times reports. In 1995, cast member Cheri Oteri was humorously punished by having to put money into a swear jar after she accidentally cursed on air. In 2009, cast member Jenny Slate let slip a vulgar word in her debut appearance.
While the incidents created brief stirs, they didn't result in significant fines or other penalties for the show.
This isn’t the first time Jackson, often outspoken on Twitter, has ruffled feathers. In late August, during the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., the avid supporter of President Barack Obama said it was unfair that Tampa escaped the direct path of a hurricane while New Orleans did not.
"Unfair [expletive]: GOP spared by Issac! NOLA prolly [expletive] Again! Not understanding God's plan!" he wrote.
