The FBI sent divers into a San Bernardino lake in California on Thursday to search for evidence related to the deadly attack carried out last week by apparent terrorist couple Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik.

"The reason we’re here searching this lake today is we did have a lead that indicated that the subjects came into this area. We have now put a dive team into that lake a logical part of covering that lead," said David Bowdich, head of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office, KTLA reported.

Bowdich said there were reports that the couple may have visited the lake the day of the shooting.

He added that the search could take several days to complete. According to ABC News, the water is very murky, and divers are largely feeling their way through the water and lake bottom.

The Wall Street Journal reported that they are looking for electronic devices that may have been dumped in the lake, specifically a computer hard drive missing from the home of the suspects.

"We would be remiss not to go into this lake and conduct a thorough search," he said, adding that the investigation would leave "no stone unturned."

Thus far, investigators have interviewed more than 400 people who may have information valuable to the case, and collected more than 325 pieces of evidence, NBC News reported

On Thursday, members of Congress were briefed on the shootings and the ongoing investigation. Part of the briefing suggested that neighbors and co-workers had seen signs that the couple may have been radicalized, but did not notify authorities.

"There are some indications that there are some things that may have alerted law enforcement to Farook," said Rep. Adam Schiff, D-California, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee.

"They didn’t say anything because . . . they were being politically correct," said Rep. Matt Salmon, R-Arizona.
