Auburn coach Gus Malzahn announced Monday that Sean White had been dismissed from the team after the backup quarterback was arrested Sunday and accused of public intoxication.

“Sean White is no longer a part of our football program at Auburn,” Malzahn said, AL.com reported. “He has made poor decisions that are not in the best interest of our program, and more importantly, himself. We appreciate his time at Auburn and wish him nothing but the best.”

White was taken to Lee County Detention Center at 3:28 a.m. Sunday on a $500 bond, ESPN reported. Police reports said White was drunk at the time of the arrest.

White was suspended for the first two games this season for undisclosed reasons. After being a starter for 16 games over the last two seasons, he lost the starting spot to Jarrett Stidham this year. White also had an injury to his forearm last spring that caused him to miss a few games.

Twitter fans supported White, joked about the situation, and some downplayed the incident.
