The Secret Service has vacated Trump Towers following a lease dispute.
The organization, which was initially stationed a floor below President Donald Trump’s apartment, was relocated to a trailer situated more than 50 floors below the apartment, on the sidewalk, in July, The Washington Post reported.
On Thursday Amanda Miller, spokeswoman for the Trump Organization, told The Washington Post that "after much consideration, it was mutually determined that it would be more cost effective and logistically practical for the Secret Service to lease space elsewhere."
The Trump family have reportedly rarely visited the Trump Towers since taking up residence in the White House and, although details surrounding the issue remain vague, two sources familiar with the situation, cited pricing as well as other terms and conditions relating to the lease as reasons for the dispute.
Secret Service spokeswoman, Catherine Milhoan told The Washington Post that the Secret Service was working "to obtain permanent work space in an appropriate location."
She added that, "throughout this process, there has been no impact to the security plan developed by the Secret Service."
Spokeswoman for the General Services Administration, Pamela Dixon, said "the space is still in the process of being obtained and a final decision has not been made."
According to The Washington Post, the agency would try to compensate for the situation however, the situation remained unsafe in the event of an emergency incident.
"It’s a security deficiency that has to be resolved," an anonymous former Secret Service official said.
"It’s like having the quarterback of the football game actually being located in a different stadium than where the game is being played."
Previously, reports that the Secret Service would be stationed in Trump Tower were met with widespread criticism after CNN reported that the organization could pay up to $1.5 million a year to rent out one floor.
