Simone Garcia Johnson, daughter of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Dany Garcia, will be the first Golden Globe Ambassador for the 2018 ceremony in January.
The role is the same position that was formerly titled Miss (or Mr.) Golden Globe, which is usually done by a child of a star participating in the ceremony. Last year, Sylvester Stallone’s three daughters took on the role, which helps get the trophies on and off the stage as they are presented, USA Today reported.
In addition to the award-carrying duties on ceremony night, Garcia Johnson will also make appearances during the year and represent her chosen nonprofit organization, Global Girl Media, during the rest of the year. The group gives young women a voice through digital journalism channels and helps them learn the tools to get their voices heard, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Sixteen-year-old Garcia Johnson was recently signed as a model by IMG and was excited to be the Golden Globes' first ambassador. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association selected her for the 75th annual Golden Globe Awards and announced the choice Wednesday, Variety reported.
“I’ve been lucky enough to grow up in a household with strong role models and feel so honored to represent the HFPA for its 75th anniversary,” Garcia Johnson said. “As the newly minted Golden Globe Ambassador, I hope to serve as a role model to young people everywhere and empower them to speak out on issues they are passionate about,” Variety reported.
Garcia Johnson said her parents gave her some advice about her new role: “They told me to live in the moment and have fun and to always be myself,” THR reported.
