The cast of "Anchorman 2" dropped by "SNL" over the weekend to offer fellow news team member and host Paul Rudd some support and to face off against boy band One Direction in a sing-off.
During his opening monologue, three-time "Saturday Night Live " host Rudd explained that his last two hosting gigs were disappointing because musical guests like Beyonce and Paul McCartney stole the spotlight. As he spoke, the British quintet One Direction came on stage and, once again, overshadowed him.

"You've got your boy band, well I've brought my man band," Rudd snapped as "Anchorman 2" stars Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, and David Koechner took the stage.
After some trash talking ("Why don't you beat it, Menudo," Ferrell said to the One Direction boys), the two "bands" made peace and then performed a rendition of "Afternoon Delight."
The "Anchorman" cast popped up periodically throughout the episode, most notably in the requisite "Bill Brasky" scene. The sketch, which Ferrell and "Anchorman" director Adam McKay created during their time as series regulars, features a group of drunk men at a bar reminiscing about the legendary Bill Brasky, a mutual acquaintance.
"He was the best man at my wedding. By best man I mean he got drunk, took a dump on the wedding cake, and made love to my wife on a water fountain," Ferrell said during the skit.
Other highlights from Saturday night's episode included appearances by Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen in a "Sound of Music" parody and one bit where Rudd played a One Direction fan boy.
Over the last few weeks, Ferrell has been on a media tour to promote the upcoming sequel to the original 2004 "Anchorman" comedy. His character, Ron Burgundy, has
co-anchored a local North Dakota news broadcast, co-hosted the Canadian curling trials, guest starred in a series of Dodge Durango commercials, inspired a new Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavor, and sparked an "Anchorman" exhibit at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.
"Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" hits theaters Dec. 18.
