Five Spirit Airlines passengers were involved in a brawl Wednesday over a dispute of loud music on a flight from Baltimore to Los Angeles,
authorities told KNBC-TV.
Two female passengers, who seemed to be intoxicated, started playing music loudly on a boom box during the flight and refused request from other passengers to turn it down, Spirit Airlines spokesman Paul Berry told the television station.
Berry said the fight erupted when the music-playing women then turned up the music even louder, in what appeared to be an attempt "to provoke" other passengers, and they were confronted by another group of fliers.
Part of the confrontation was caught on video, with multiple punches being thrown and hair pulled, stated KNBC-TV.
"There were some serious punches," passenger Emerson Silva said in an interview that aired on the
"Today" show. "I felt like alcohol was definitely involved in the fight. … Nobody actually did anything (to stop the fight). At the point I saw the ladies swinging on each other, punching on each other. The stewardess even got punched."
CBS News said flight attendants and passengers joined together to break up the fight and no one was seriously hurt.
Los Angeles International Airport police pulled the five fighting women off the airplane after it landed, said the
Los Angeles Times. LAX Officer Rob Pedregon called the fight a "mutual combat situation." FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller told the Times that none of the fighters were arrested.
Many on social media looked at the humorous side of the brawl.
