The end of 2014 brings a time to reflect and mourn the stars who were lost during the year.
One of the most tragic losses for many was the suicide of comedian Robin Williams. He diedAug. 11 at the age of 63. "I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings,”
Williams’ wife, Susan Schneider, told Us Weekly. “I am utterly heartbroken. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin's death, but on the countless moments of joy."
The grief for Williams continues today and likely for a long time, spurred by the recent release of one of his last films, “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.”
But the world lost many other notable personalities, too. Joan Rivers died at 81 and much-loved actor Philip Seymour Hoffman died of an overdose in February after battling addiction problems for years.
Musicians Joe Cocker and The Rolling Stones’ Bobby Keys both died in December, and were remembered fondly by fans online.
Others stars lost in 2014 included reality star Diem Brown at age 32 from cancer; actress Misty Upham, 32, who appeared in “August: Osage County”; designer Oscar de la Renta; Mickey Rooney; and the iconic Lauren Bacall.
As CinemaBlend put it, “We lost legends in 2014. Lucky for us, we’ll always have the creative work they left behind to remind us of their incredible abilities to entertain, to make us laugh, to make us think, and to make us smile.”
