The first trailer of the upcoming Stephen King movie “It” has been released, showing scenes of children stalked, attacked, and haunted by an evil clown who eats children.
Bill Skarsgard plays Pennywise the clown, and in 1989, the members of the Losers’ Club have to try to stop him from carrying out his murderous mission against them and other children in the town of Derry, Maine.
The clown resurfaces every 30 years, which will pave the way for a two-part adaptation of the book, which also follows two different time periods, USA Today reported. The “losers” mobilize to stop Pennywise after one’s brother is taken by the evil clown, and explores the theme of innocence lost.
This iteration of "It" has been in the works since 2012, with directors and stars switching out as the timing of the movie changed. “The Revenant” star Will Poulter was set to play Pennywise but had to drop out when the schedule was pushed back, and director Cary Fukunaga also dropped out, although he has a credit on the script. “Mama” director Andres Muschietti is now at the helm of "It: Part 1—The Losers' Club."
The movie is set to be released Sept. 8, and will join “The Dark Tower,” another King adaptation that will release this summer.
The new trailer seems to be provoking plenty of fear and revulsion among Twitter users.
