Stevie Wonder is expecting one child with girlfriend Tomeeka Robyn Bracy, not triplets as previously reported, the music legend said this week in an appearance on "The View."
Rumors circulated last month that the 64-year-old Grammy Award winner was expecting multiples with Bracy, which would have brought his total number of children to 11 with
five different women, according to the Los Angeles Times.
But Wonder set the record straight Wednesday, telling the ladies of ABC's "The View" that Bracy, 40, is pregnant with just one child.
"Whoopi, it's so hard for me these days," he joked to co-host Whoopi Goldberg. "That's why I'm going on the road. I've got how many — 22 kids? No, actually it's not true."
"The truth is we're going to have a wonderful daughter, born in December. Her name is going to be Nia, which is 'purpose.' And rumors spread. Like I said in the song 'Superstition,' 'When you believe in things you don't understand, you suffer.' So, you know, it's a bunch of a bull."
Sources say Wonder, who got his start in Motown as a prodigy in the 1960s, is excited about becoming a father once again because he missed out on much of his other kids' childhoods.
"Stevie never thought he'd be a father again so late in life,"
a source recently told the National Enquirer. "It may not have been planned but now he's excited. He's been going to all the doctor's visits and scans with Tomeeka. He actually can't wait until the birth. Stevie missed so much of his other children's upbringings, he's vowed to be there for their children and for his soon-to-be new wife."
Wonder kicks off an 11-date tour commemorating his "Songs in the Key of Life" album on Thursday with a date at New York City's Madison Square Garden.
