Stuart Scott's legion of fans took to Twitter to post touching sendoffs to the longtime ESPN broadcaster after news broke that the 49-year-old had died of cancer Sunday morning.
Scott worked at ESPN for more than 22 years, first appearing on the network's signature show "SportsCenter," where he made phrases such as "Boo-yah" and "as cool as the other side of the pillow" part of the daily sports language.
He was first diagnosed with stomach cancer in November 2007 and, over the next seven years, underwent several surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, and
clinical trials while continuing to work for ESPN, the network noted. Scott often cited his daughters — Taelor, 19, and Sydni, 15 — as his inspiration to keep fighting during his battle with cancer.
A moment of silence was held at both NFL wild-card games over the weekend, as well as at several NBA basketball games .
Mourners on Twitter included fellow broadcasters, journalists, athletes, and fans.
