Three stuntmen in town for Comic-Con rescued a suicidal woman who was hanging off a balcony last week in San Diego.

The men, who were setting up for a live stunt event at the convention, heard screams Thursday and saw a woman preparing to jump from the 14th floor of an apartment building across the street.

"The [stunt] coordinator and I were up on a scissor lift, we were a good 30 to 40 feet in the air already working when we turned around and looked," Amos Carver, one of the rescuers, told ABC News. "There was just a lot of commotion, people were screaming and pointing."

Carver, Gregg Sergeant, and Scot Schecter immediately brought the lift down, raced across three lanes of traffic, and scaled a fence before running into the apartment high-rise. With clearance from the building manager, the three men went up to the unit and saw the woman "hanging on [the balcony] with one hand, and had one foot off the ledge."

Sergeant lunged and wrapped the woman in a bear hug while Carver and Schecter hooked her up to a harness and brought her back over the ledge.

"She just kept saying, 'I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry,' over and over again," Carver said. "She was very distraught."

This wasn’t the first time the three stuntmen have intervened in a life-or-death situation.

"We're trained to deal with these situations should they arise," Carver said. "But usually if we do, it's not an innocent civilian. If we're saving somebody, it's a situation we constructed in such a way that they're out on the edge of life or death intentionally to get a certain shot [in a film], and we swoop in. But those are people that are expecting this."
Police said the woman, who has not been identified, was intoxicated and upset over a breakup, according to ABC San Diego affiliate KGTV.
