Superman and Batman will appear in a "Man of Steel" sequel, director Zack Snyder revealed at Comic-Con this weekend, sending the nation's largest comic book fan convention in San Diego into a frenzy.

Snyder used some dramatics with the aid of actor Harry Lennix, who stars in the current "Man of Steel" movie to reveal that Superman and Batman will be together on the screen, Entertainment Weekly reported.

"It’s official: We’re making another Superman movie," Snyder told the audience, according to Entertainment Weekly. EW said Snyder told the audience he could not talk about the film but he "pored through the DC Universe to look for a way to tell this thing."

That's when Lennix, according to Entertainment Weekly, walked onto the stage and read a line from Frank Miller comic book "The Dark Knight Returns," which features Batman and Superman.

"I want you to remember, Clark. In all the years to come. In all your most private moments. I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you," which quotes Batman who was engaged in a fight with Superman.

Entertainment Weekly said the Superman logo appeared on a big screen with the Batman logo superimposed on it.

The Superman/Batman movie may not have been possible without the success of "Marvel's The Avengers" last year, which brought together comic book characters Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor and Captain America, all which had their own movies. "Marvel's The Avengers" racked up $632.3 million in domestically and $1.5 billion worldwide, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.

In fact, DC Entertainment is in catch up mode with Marvel already moving toward a second "Avengers" movie with several feature films setting it up. "Iron Man 3," starring Robert Downey Jr., showed his character adjusting to life after "The Avengers."

At Comic-Con, actress Zoe Saldana announced that she will play Gamora in the upcoming Marvel's movie "Guardians of the Galaxy," one of the shows that will lead to the next "Avengers" film, reported The Associated Press.

Saldana has established her credentials with science fiction fans in her role as Uhura in the current Star Trek franchise, including this summer's "Star Trek Into Darkness" and co-starring in the blockbuster "Avatar."
