Susan Rice has gotten "four Pinocchios" from The Washington Post for claiming Syria gave up its chemical weapons stockpiles under former President Barack Obama’s leadership in 2013.
The Washington Post’s fact checker made the four Pinocchio determination after looking at Rice's comments at the time, in which she said Obama demonstrated good leadership by getting Syria to give up its “known” chemical weapons stockpiles, which the Post interpreted to mean the weapons it had declared.
According to the Post, though, Rice clearly left out important information, namely that the Obama administration had strong suspicions Syria did not declare all of its chemical weapons in 2013 and may have held back sarin gas stockpiles when it turned over declared stockpiles at that time.
Sarin gas is believed to have been used in the chemical weapons attack carried out by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against his own citizens last week, which prompted air strikes ordered by President Donald Trump on the facility that housed the gas.
Syria also was known to have used chlorine gas in attacks on civilians in 2014 and 2015, but chlorine is not classified as a chemical weapon because it has legitimate industrial uses, so it was not declared by Syria in 2013, the Post stated.
On "Fox and Friends Weekend," Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer referred to Susan Rice as the Obama White House’s "liar-in-chief" for her claims about removing chemical weapons from Syria as well as previous claims that the attack on Benghazi was because of a video.
