Taco Bell Breakfast War With McDonald's Waged Online (Video)

Taco Bell and McDonald's continue to trade social media barbs this week as the two fast-food chains battle for the top spot in the $50 billion-a-year breakfast market.

It started last week when Taco Bell launched its new 14-item breakfast menu, which includes such creations as the Waffle Taco, the A.M. Crunchwrap, and Cinnabon Delights.

The Mexican fast-food joint then released a companion ad featuring 25 real people named Ronald McDonald professing their love for Taco Bell, as if the beloved McDonald's clown had jumped ship.

McDonald's then countered with its own marketing campaign: Free cups of McCafe coffee during regular breakfast hours from March 31 through April 13.

The chain also took to Twitter with a funny photo of Mayor McCheese assuring customers that Ronald McDonald's favorite restaurant is still his namesake.

McDonald's also tweeted out a picture of Ronald McDonald petting a little Chihuahua — presumably Taco Bell's mascot — and saying, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

Taco Bell finally retaliated with a cheeky Instagram video.
