Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift made a $50,000 donation to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia this past week, which will be used to create specialized programming for teens with cancer.

"We are thrilled that Taylor Swift has chosen to support The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Cancer Center," said Steven M. Altschuler, the hospital's CEO, according to The Philadelphia Business Journal. "Her gift will help lift the spirits of many CHOP patients during a difficult time."

The CHOP Cancer Center began its program for adolescents in 2010, aiming to provide a "comprehensive, multidisciplinary program of psychosocial services" in addition to traditional treatments like chemo and radiation after discovering that a more holistic approach produces better outcomes.

"Teenagers who are being treated for cancer have emotional and social needs that are different than their younger counterparts," Stephanie Rogerwick, the center's child life manager, told the Business Journal of the program's focus.

In addition to the monetary donation, Swift, 24, stopped by the hospital to visit some of the kids currently undergoing cancer treatment and show her support, Yahoo Music reported.

Swift has a record of visiting hospital patients, dropping by New York's Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in March and Omaha's Children's Hospital & Medical Center in Nebraska last year.

"Taylor Swift is a class act all around. She was so sweet, compassionate, asked us questions, got on Skype with my other daughter, stayed in our room and talked with us and was completely down to earth," the mother of one girl recovering from a bone marrow transplant at Sloan wrote on Facebook.

In 2012, Swift was given the Ripple of Hope Award from the Robert F. Kennedy Center for her work with children who have cancer; she was the youngest person to ever receive it.

In addition to her charity work aimed at fighting cancer, Swift is also known for supporting music education programs, having donated $4 million to the Country Music Hall of Fame and $100,000 to the Nashville Symphony.
