Tim Tebow isn't ruling out a future role in politics, as he considers it a profession in which he could help others while making an impact in their lives.
"My goal has always been to make the biggest impact that I possibly could in people’s lives," the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner and former Florida Gators quarterback told The Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville. "If I thought this was the right avenue, this would work, then I would be totally up for going down that path."
That doesn't mean he's ready to throw his hat into a race quite yet, however.
"Do I feel like that’s right now?" said Tebow. "No, not necessarily. Could it happen in the future? Yeah, I definitely wouldn’t write that off.”
There had been some talk that he was to speak at the Republican National Convention last week, but he quickly dismissed that as just a rumor.
Tebow also may have his sights on coaching, as "coaching is teaching, and it’s helping and it’s mentoring and it’s loving and it’s being a father figure. That is something that has always intrigued me.”
The one thing Tebow doesn't call himself is a retired football player. Tebow, who will be 29 next month, was a first-draft pick for the Denver Broncos in 2010, and then was traded to the New York Jets in 2012. After that he went to training camps for New England and Philadelphia, but was cut both times.
"I think I consider myself someone that is so blessed to do what I love to do and to be around the game of college football and to be able to be part of something that was so much a part of my life since I was a little boy," he said. "But also I’ve got a lot of different things going on right now."
He currently works as an analyst for the SEC Network and ESPN, and participates with the Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team.
Tebow's new book, "Shaken," which will come out in next month, covers the disappointment about how his professional career turned out. He also co-hosts "Home Free," a Fox show in which couples compete for a home, with everyone winning. His Tim Tebow Foundation operates in 16 countries and is growing.
