Rocker and gun rights advocate Ted Nugent will attend Tuesday's State of the Union address, courtesy of a Texas Republican congressman.
An outspoken critic of President Barack Obama's proposed gun control laws, Nugent will attend as Rep. Steve Stockman's guest, the congressman announced via
press release Monday.
"I am excited to have a patriot like Ted Nugent joining me in the House chamber to hear from President Obama," Stockman said. "After the address I’m sure Ted will have plenty to say."
Nugent, 64, has been an advocate of the Second Amendment for years and frequently criticizes Obama.
Nugent made headlines this past April when he addressed fellow gun rights advocates at the National Rifle Association's convention, calling Obama, among other members of his administration, "criminals."
"If you don't know that our government is wiping it’s a** with the constitution. You're living under a rock some place. And that there's a dead soldier, an airman, a marine, a seaman, a hero of the military that just got his legs blown off for the U.S. constitution, and we got a president and attorney general who doesn't even like the constitution," Nugent said. "Our president, attorney general, vice president, Hillary Clinton, they're criminals."
As a result of the rant, a Secret Service agent told NYMag.com that the agency was aware of Nugent's comments and will be conducting an "appropriate follow up."
The Secret Service later confronted Nugent, who described the meeting as "good, solid, professional" and said the agency concluded "that I have never made any threats of violence toward anyone."
In addition to his assessment of the president and his aides,
Nugent has also taken on other gun control proponents like New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, who in January he called "the dumbest upright species in the history of breathing creatures."
